OUR BUILDINGS

Picture

Built in 1912, this building was originally located near the present Police Station in Balance Street.  It was closed in 1972 and the Ōtorohanga Historical Society was formed to save it from destruction.  It was shifted onto site in 1974, and was the beginning of the Museum.

St Brides Church, built in 1908 and originally located in Te Kanawa Street.  It was closed in 1960 when the new St Brides was opened.  The Society obtained the building when the section was purchased by our first President Mick Powell.  The building was moved to the Museum site in 1988.

Built in 1896, the Police Lock -up is our oldest known building and has two cells.  It was previously located behind the Courthouse.  Until 1926 there was no power in the lock-up

Now used as our shed and tool room.  Once upon a time this small building was used by the Police to lock up sly groggers while they were being processed in the 1930s.
